COAL ALLIANCE WELCOMES PROVINCIAL GO-AHEAD FOR TEXADA QUARRYING

Vancouver, British Columbia – The Coal Alliance today welcomed the decision of the Ministry of Energy and Mines which, after careful review, has approved a permit amendment that will allow for the transhipment of additional coal by Texada Quarrying.

“British Columbians have said they support increased natural resource development and the high paying jobs that come with it, so this decision is a positive step for the coal industry,” said Coal Alliance spokesperson Alan Fryer. “The industry supports more than 26,000 jobs and contributes $3.2 billion in value-added GDP to the provincial economy each year.”

“Not only will this decision lead to the creation of new well paying jobs, it’s another small step towards addressing the need – as Canada’s gateway to Asia – for more export capacity through B.C.,” said Fryer. “That’s good news for B.C. workers and for the B.C. and Canadian economies.”

We believe BC’s coal industry is an important part of our province and something all British Columbians should be proud of.
